McKinney Repertory Theatre & Young Actors Guild

McKinney Repertory Theatre (MRT) was incorporated with the State of Texas in January 2003 by a group of local amateur actors who have worked together for several years to present plays and musicals in a community theater format. Each fall, MRT opens a new season of plays at the McKinney Performing Arts Center and hosts other special events including "McKinney Has Talent" (a local talent show) and the "Broadway Bound" Children's Summer Musical Program.

MRT’s Young Actors Guild was established by MRT in 2009 with the goal of helping children and teens learn how important their endeavors are whether onstage, behind the curtain or as supporters of the arts, and to offer youth the opportunity to become involved. Call 972-542-1603 for more information on either group.

The McKinney Repertory Theatre receives partial funding for its productions through the City of McKinney Arts Commission.

McKinney Community Band

Comprising roughly 40 regular players, this gathering of volunteer musicians rehearses each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at McKinney ISD’s Scott Johnson Middle School. Open to all adult musicians who have graduated from high school (you need to be over 18 years old to join), the band performs various concerts throughout the year, both in public appearances, such as several times a year at the McKinney Performing Arts Center, and at the Heard-Craig House Garden Series.

The band also performs private gatherings such as at Country Lane retirement living in McKinney. The band also has two satellite groups, the McKinney Dance Band and the McKinney Flute Choir. The McKinney Community Band (MCB) and its satellite groups are partially funded by the McKinney Arts Commission with other funds coming from membership dues and private donations.

McKinney Youth Theater

Founded in 2005, the McKinney Youth Theatre (MYT) is a sister theatre to the Plano Children's Theatre (PCT). The two groups share an office (in Plano), directors, costumes, set pieces and actors. The McKinney branch puts on productions and camps primarily at the Heard-Craig Performance Hall in historic McKinney. For more information, call 972-422-2575.

Four Funny Females

This comedy troupe performs three to four shows a season at the McKinney Performing Arts Center Courtroom Theater – “bringing comedy to the courthouse!” The clean show is safe for most ages as these funny ladies provide a comedy club atmosphere far from the big city.
