Texas Friendly Music Community badge created for McKinney by the state music officeMcKinney's Music Scene

The McKinney community is lucky to have so many talented musicians including many truly gifted singer-songwriters, music instructors, cover bands, and up-and-coming artists. Find them performing at many of the downtown restaurants and both wineries as well as restaurants and venues across the city. The people of McKinney love our musicians, both professional and amateur, so much so that in 2020, Visit McKinney worked with the Texas Music Office within the Office of the Governor to earn a Texas Music Friendly Community designation.

McKinney is Proud to be a Texas Music Friendly Community

Visit McKinney serves as the liaison office between the City of McKinney and the Texas Music Office within the Texas Office of the Governor. As part of the city's certification and agreement with the TMO, we have an independent advisory board of seven volunteers within the music and events scene in McKinney that works with Visit McKinney to support McKinney's music scene. Visit McKinney stays in contact and works with the TMO and other Texas Music Friendly Communities via one-on-one calls, virtual liaison roundtable meetings, the Texas Sounds & Cities Annual Workshop, and even via feedback with the TMO and the Texas Office of the Governor to assist as needed on Task Force efforts, especially in dealing with the COVID pandemic's effect on the music industry.

Live Music Events McKinney

In summer 2021, Downtown McKinney worked with KHYI The Range radio station to host the 25th Annual Texas Music Revolution festival featuring four main stages, small stages in more than 25 shops and restaurants, and almost 100 musicians during the fantastic two-day event. The 2022 event, the 26th Annual Texas Music Revolution, took place in June and was bigger and better than the first year... proof that live music is thriving in McKinney, Texas. And now, three years after that first TMR in McKinney, the event continues to grow, with the 28th annual music festival taking place in Downtown McKinney June 7-8, 2024, and featuring headliners Lyle Lovett and Lukas Nelson!

Below are a few examples of McKinney music locations and groups that support local music development and the listings below this link to restaurants and other venues where you can find live music every weekend, and venues that hold live music events.
