11 Summer Camps for Kids in McKinney! (Updated)

McKinney is full of cool experiences for your kids to enjoy during the hot summer months. Below are links to all sorts of camps, including art, nature, music, sports, dress-up and more:

  • Career Exploration Camp - Grades 8-11: The McKinney Fire Department helps youth and teen participants learn about fire and emergency response service careers during this special summer camp. Two sessions: June 17-21 and June 24-28. $25 for residents and $40 for non-residents.

  • Summer Music Intensives –  Sponsored by by McKinney Arts & Music Guild, this week-long day camp (July 15-21) is for middle and high school music students, offering instruction in diverse styles. Campers will learn about everything from classical to jazz, folk, bluegrass, performing in daily classes and coaching in both large and small ensembles.

  • Prairie Adventure Camps – Heritage Village at Chestnut Square once again presents camps for ages 7-14 in which participants take part in old-fashioned activities. Each session is three days long, and two sessions are offered per camp subject. Sessions run from June 4-Aug. 1. 

  • Parks & Recreation Summer Camps – The City of McKinney offers both half-day and full-day camps in a wide range of interests - adventure, sports, arts and creative expression, tech, aquatics and more. 

  • Summer Nature Camps - The Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary offers a wide range of camps for ages from 3-1/2 to 16 years of age. Sessions start June 3 and run through late July.
  • Painting Classes for Kids & Caregivers - Painting with a Twist offers daytime classes designed just for kids and their caregivers throughout the summer. 

  • Walls of Clay Drop-Off Camps - These 90-minute summer drop-in classes are designed for ages 6-plus. Sessions are each $25 plus tax with sessions being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Register and pay online prior to dropping kids off. Camps begin June 18. 

  • Summer Art Camps and Summer Classes - Jump Into Art offers a wide assortment of camps and classes for ages 7-15.   

  • Puppet Making Workshop for Kids - Stageworthy Arts in downtown McKinney is hosting four-day sessions (one a week) through July. Check their website for dates and themes, and to register. (They also have puppet making workshops for adults.)
