  6. "Sunrise" Silent Movie plus the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ

February 25, 2017, 7:30 PM @ McKinney Performing Arts Center Courtroom Theater

An allegorical tale about a man fighting the good and evil within him. Both sides are made flesh - one a sophisticated woman he is attracted to and the other his wife. Arguably, many of the best silent films came in the late 1920’s as Hollywood’s first two decades was coming to an end, and the talking motion picture was about to make its debut. Such is the case with the 1927 classic Sunrise, a movie that is still critically acclaimed by both the American and British Film Institutes as a masterpiece of early film making. Providing the musical score for the event on the MPAC Wurlitzer will be Minneapolis organist Joe Carlyle. The artist has a long history of performances throughout the Midwest including regular stints on the Rhinestone Barton Organ in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and at the Heights Theater in Minneapolis. He has also been a featured performer on the acclaimed National Public Radio program The Prairie Home Companion, hosted by Garrison Keillor.
