Encounter the 46-foot T-Rex and nine new life-size animatronic dinosaurs along the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary’s nature trails at the 12th annual Dinosaurs Live! The exhibit always gives families and friends a fun, educational activity to enjoy together. See the dinosaurs move and hear them roar! Photo op and play area dinosaurs will be available as well. This year, the exhibit also features an outdoor fossil dig. The dinosaur trail is jogging stroller friendly (it is not suitable for strollers with small wheels).

If you've ever been to the Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown, Texas, you'll know the vibrancy of bright red poppies and their symbol of remembrance. From September 19 through September 30th, the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts (McKinney's oldest art museum) will showcase poppy paintings, porcelain works, and current McKinney Artists' whimsical works (for sale to the public) featuring poppies. Remember a loved one with a gift of poppy art. Open during the day between 9:00 - 3:00 PM and on Saturday mornings from 8:00 - noon. At 205 W. Hunt. Tickets are available online.

Greg Koch and the Koch-Marshall Trio consist of American guitarist Greg Koch, his son Dylan Koch on drums and Hammond B3 specialist Toby Lee Marshall. At the heart of this organ trio is a blues sensibility - but Koch's compositions are an amalgam of rock, funk, jazz and country served up with heavy grooves and dynamic improvisations delivered with no small dose of humor and occasional wild abandon.

The 2017 Crape Myrtle Run and Festival, featuring USATF certified 10K and 5K courses and a 1-mile course, is set for Saturday, Sept. 23. The start/finish line for all walkers and runners is located this year at McKinney Boyd High School, 600 North Lake Forest Drive in McKinney. Races begin at 8:00, 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. with check-in and pre-race entertainment at 7 a.m.
The festival aspect of the annual event includes activities in “Myrtle Village” both before and after the race. Entertainment in the area includes a petting zoo, face painter, bounce house, photo booth, inflatable obstacle course, music, warm-up exercises, and a great favorite, the Chicken Dance. In a long-established tradition, students from the school with the greatest participation will get to see their coach or principal Kiss a Pig. (“Myrtle” is her name.) In addition, local education reaps benefits when Crape Myrtle Trails Board members return $5 of students’ and parents’ registration fees to participating schools

The McKinney Poetry Society, a chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas, will read poetry to celebrate National Poetry Day on Saturday, September 30, 2017 (in lieu of September 28) at The Village at Stonebridge located at 3300 S. Stonebridge Drive, McKinney. Some of the residents are expected to participate in reading poetry.
Since its founding in 1970, it stays focused in taking poetry to schools by sponsoring the Collin County Annual Poetry Contest for students and adults. It also strives to bring enjoyment to organizations like senior retirement or nursing homes through poetic events, one of which is poetry reading.
