  1. Dinosaurs Live! at The Heard

    September 2, 2017 - February 20, 2018 @ Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

    Encounter the 46-foot T-Rex and nine new life-size animatronic dinosaurs along the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary’s nature trails at the 12th annual Dinosaurs Live! The exhibit always gives families and friends a fun, educational activity to enjoy together. See the dinosaurs move and hear them roar! Photo op and play area dinosaurs will be available as well. This year, the exhibit also features an outdoor fossil dig. The dinosaur trail is jogging stroller friendly (it is not suitable for strollers with small wheels).

  2. Exhibit - POPPIES, A Symbol of Remembrance

    September 19, 2017, 9:00 AM - October 1, 2017, 12:00 PM @ Daily Exhibit (except Sundays), Open to the Public, $5.00 historic preservation donation.

    If you've ever been to the Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown, Texas, you'll know the vibrancy of bright red poppies and their symbol of remembrance. From September 19 through September 30th, the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts (McKinney's oldest art museum) will showcase poppy paintings, porcelain works, and current McKinney Artists' whimsical works (for sale to the public) featuring poppies. Remember a loved one with a gift of poppy art. Open during the day between 9:00 - 3:00 PM and on Saturday mornings from 8:00 - noon. At 205 W. Hunt. Tickets are available online.

    Bring your appetites to McKinney's most delicious event! We'll have mouthwatering brunch cuisine from eight different restaurants and food trucks! Rye mixologists will be pouring your favorite brunch cocktails and we'll have live music on the lawn featuring the N'awlins Gumbo Kings! Come ready to shop! We'll have over 40 boutiques and artisans! Take photos with your brunch bunch at the photo booth, play lawn games, and enjoy culinary and mixology demonstrations throughout the day from talented local culinary experts!   6. Celebrate National Poetry Day

    The McKinney Poetry Society, a chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas, will read poetry to celebrate National Poetry Day on Saturday, September 30, 2017 (in lieu of September 28) at The Village at Stonebridge located at 3300 S. Stonebridge Drive, McKinney. Some of the residents are expected to participate in reading poetry. Since its founding in 1970, it stays focused in taking poetry to schools by sponsoring the Collin County Annual Poetry Contest for students and adults. It also strives to bring enjoyment to organizations like senior retirement or nursing homes through poetic events, one of which is poetry reading.
