money and pen for grant informationVisit McKinney offers grants to assist in funding initiatives, activities, or events that promote the City of McKinney as a tourism destination.

The first round of grant applications in Fiscal Year 2019-20 may be submitted between now and October 1. Presentations by the applicants will occur at the Visit McKinney Board's October meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22. (The location will be announced prior to that meeting.) Following this meeting, a committee of board members will review the applications and make recommendations that will be voted on during their November 2019  board meeting.

“Funding for Visit McKinney comes from hotel taxes collected by the city, and we’re excited to be able to offer some of those funds to our tourism partners who want to bring new tourism dollars into the city economy,” said Dee-dee Guerra, Visit McKinney Executive Director. "There have been some great events and programs take place that we help fund."

Recipients of tourism grants in 2018-19 included:

  • Texas Folklore Society - $3,000
  • Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary - $5,000
  • The Courts Tennis Complex - $4,000
  • Star-Spangled Salsa Fest (Community Garden Kitchen) - $1,000
  • International Festival (Imagine International School) - $3,000
  • Art Meets Floral (Heard-Craig Center for the Arts) - $5,000
  • Odysseus Chamber Orchestra - $1,500
  • McKinney Art Studio Tour (Arts & Music Guild) - $7,500

“Hotel tax has very specific guidelines in the State of Texas, so potential applicants for grant funds will need to check their request against the Texas Hotel Tax Expenditure Requirements,” Guerra said. “That document is available on our website along with the grant guidelines, inquiry letter and application.”

Complete information about grant application, presentation, and award dates is listed on the application form which is downloadable from the tourism grant page of the Visit McKinney website or by contacting Guerra at Also, those wishing to get more information about the tourism grants prior to applying or to consult on the viability of your project concept are encouraged to contact Guerra by either email or by calling 972-547-2059.
