Finding and Giving Help in Our Community

Posted on April 22, 2020 at 12:26 AM by Beth Shumate

stone heart1McKinney has always been a caring community, willing to pitch in and help those in need. Right now, in this rather bizarre situation we all find ourselves in, there are more people than usual who are needing assistance. But there are also plenty of people looking for ways they can help, especially those who may have some extra hours on their hands and are looking for a constructive way to spend some of their time.

Below are descriptions and links to organizations offering help as well as opportunities to volunteer and/or donate. We will update this list as we find more information to add to it.

Community Lifeline Center
This long-time McKinney non-profit's mission is to prevent homelessness by helping the "working poor" who are often one paycheck away from not being able to feed their children, pay their utility bills and possibly even at risk for losing their home. CLC offers a few ways you can help them assist those that need it most:
  • Volunteering to help with food pick-up schedule and unload and restock the shelves;
  • Contributing shelf-stable foods, toiletries, and laundry detergent; and
  • Donating money to allow CLC to purchase food they need to restock their shelves.
You can even "Adopt a Shelf" by pledging a recurring gift to help purchase more food for those in need.

Volunteer McKinney
This wonderful non-profit serves as a sort of clearing house that organizations can turn to when they need help with various tasks. There is currently a wide variety of volunteer opportunities from helping with meals for McKinney youth-in-need, various subject tutors, mowing, and more. Find the right volunteer task for you and sign up on their website

One Heart McKinney
Many individuals and families who are suffering financial hardships and may not know where to turn when they are running low on food or need additional items like baby formula or diapers. McKinney residents have multiple food pantries available to them as well as other agencies that can help them get through this difficult time, some of which are listed individually on this page. Check out the One Heart McKinney website for a list of places to turn for assistance with food, housing, childcare, employment, and more.

Christ Fellowship McKinney
This community partner church has several resources linked on their website that provide assistance within the community, both for those in need and those who want to help in some way.
