McKinney: Now an Official Texas Music Friendly Community

Posted on May 20, 2020 at 8:15 AM by Beth Shumate

Music Friendly logoMcKinney has always, or at least for as long as we can remember, been a very welcoming and active city for musicians with many venues for live music, music schools, and even some high-quality music stores. It only made sense for Visit McKinney to pursue an official Texas Music Friendly Community designation through the Texas Music Office of the Office of the Governor. And now, after starting in January of this year, Visit McKinney has completed the requirements to earn this designation.

This is an important factor for the team at Visit McKinney in our mission of creating positive economic impact for the city.  The tourism entity has been working with members of the McKinney music industry to create a database of McKinney’s music resources that includes local musicians, recording engineers, restaurant and venue owners, music instructors, and more.

This information will now be added to the Texas Music Office Industry Directory comprised of 15,000-plus Texas music businesses used to foster the economic development of Texas music businesses and musicians. The Texas Music Office's resources are an unparalleled source of information into why the Texas Music industry annually has a multi-billion dollar economic impact on the state's economy.

Restaurants and wineries are enormous supports of McKinney's music scene; many of them host live music times every weekend. During the COVID-19 shutdowns, quite a few of them have been providing time on their Facebook pages for these musicians to post virtual performances to keep their names and talent out in the public. As these businesses begin to open again with larger occupancy allowances from the governor, we know that they and the musicians they support we'll be happy to start entertaining music lovers again.

We're looking forward to that, too!
