Encounter the 46-foot T-Rex and nine new life-size animatronic dinosaurs along the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary’s nature trails at the 13th annual Dinosaurs Live! Life-size Animatronic Dinosaurs exhibit. The exhibit always gives families and friends a fun, educational activity to enjoy together. See the dinosaurs move and hear them roar! Photo op and play area dinosaurs will be available as well. This year, the exhibit also features an outdoor fossil dig. The dinosaur trail is jogging stroller friendly (it is not suitable for strollers with small wheels or wheelchairs).

Schon Everywhere is a new, international pop up gallery partnership between the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts (McKinney, TX) and the Freya Frahm Haus (Laboe, Germany) where artwork is shown for a several month gallery exposition. In August, the United States artwork will be shown in Laboe, Germany. In September, the German artwork will be shown in McKinney, Texas. We welcome tour groups and have a large parking lot for bus tours. Great day out with friends: Walk the gallery and have lunch on the McKinney square!

The magic of Oaxaca, Mexico is alive in this new painting series. Festive colors, women dancing with baskets and imaginary creatures are some of the impressions Silky Hart artistically captures from a recent excursion to Oaxaca. Additional paintings and weavings by Cindy DeFoore will also be on display.

During 2018, the U.S. and Texas will observe the 100th anniversary of America's entry into WWI. In observance of the centennial commemoration the Collin County History Museum invites you to our exhibit honoring the role that Texas and Collin County soldiers and women played in the Great War. Interesting facts and details await you. CCHM is the only Museum in North Texas extensively covering this anniversary. HOURS: Thur - Sat, 10 AM to 4 PM. Admission: FREE

These story times are designed primarily for children and will introduce a different nature-themed book each week. During most of the story times, a puppet, live animal or enrichment items will be included to enhance the experience. These programs should last approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the book covered.

Enjoy this highly anticipated North Texas event with timed and USATF-trail certified 10K, 5K, or 1-Mile Fun Run and Free Family Festival. There will be runners’ awards and prizes (Best Runner’s Costume, Best Dog Costume, Best Photo Booth Image) along with an inflatable obstacle course, face-painting, photo booth, and petting zoo. Discover more about our state butterfly, their migration pattern, life cycle & how you can help protect their habitat. Designed primarily for adults. Interested youth may attend with an adult. May not be suitable for children younger than 10 years. Talks are led by Melanie Schuchart, one of our key butterfly volunteers. Each presentation will last about an hour followed by a walk through the butterfly house and garden.

Mockingbird Poetry Society in McKinney (a Chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas) will have an Open Mic poetry event to celebrate National Poetry Day on Sat., Sept. 29, in lieu of Oct. 4, Thurs. (actual National Poetry Day). All poets and non-poets are invited. If you have poem/s to read or recite, or have “spoken word” to share, come and be heard. This event will be held at Filtered Craft Coffee House located at 218 E. Louisiana St. at S. Johnson St. SE Corner two blocks off McDonald St. (Rt.5).

Learn the fun and interesting world of batik plus our favorite dyeing processes! Enjoy spending the day playing with color placement, resisting and the wonderful processes of cold and hot dye. Indigo, tumeric (yellow) and black walnut dyes are exciting to work with and multiple processes will be explained. Students receive 3 linen scarves to work with but feel free to bring up to 6 additional items to batik and dye. 100% natural fiber works best, wash in advance to remove sizing. Limited to 25 students. This events takes place mostly outside so dress according. Feel free to bring a snack to share, coffee and tea provided. Please wear dark clothes and bring gloves.
