Dinosaurs Live! at The Heard2018-09-01T00:00:00Encounter the 46-foot T-Rex and nine new life-size animatronic dinosaurs along the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary’s nature trails at the 13th annual Dinosaurs Live! Life-size Animatronic Dinosaurs exhibit. The exhibit always gives families and friends a fun, educational activity to enjoy together. See the dinosaurs move and hear them roar! Photo op and play area dinosaurs will be available as well. This year, the exhibit also features an outdoor fossil dig. The dinosaur trail is jogging stroller friendly (it is not suitable for strollers with small wheels or wheelchairs).

Feathered Friends: 13 Texas Endangered and Threatened Birds2019-02-05T09:00:00The Heard invites you to take part in an interactive artistic bird watch within the museum exploring an exhibition that features 13 endangered and threatened birds native to Texas as interpreted by fourteen local, award-winning artists. Guests will also learn more about what action is being taken to save our avian neighbors and how to help. The exhibit coincides with National Wild Bird Feeding Month and the Great Backyard Bird Count.

Great Backyard Bird Count 20192019-02-15T06:00:00The annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) takes place February 15-18 2019, it is the perfect opportunity to enjoy nature and be a citizen-scientist. This study helps scientists better define bird ranges, populations, migration pathways and habitat needs.
Wild Birds Unlimited is the major sponsor of this joint project between the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Bird Studies Canada and the National Audubon Society. Individuals, families, schools and organizations are encouraged to count birds at bird feeders and in backyards or other locations. The tallies are then reported online through the BirdSource web site at www.birdsource.org/gbbc.
The BirdSource Web site is a revolutionary partnership between citizens and scientists. It gives participants almost instantaneous feedback through graphics, animated maps and other regularly-updated information.

This event is open to all students 5th-12th grade to compete in teams of 3 ( students may register individually), students are encouraged to bring donations of canned fruits and vegetables all items collected will be donated the Community Food Pantry of McKinney.
