About Heard-Craig Center for the Arts
Private Garden Venue, Carriage House Indoor Venue and Garden Outdoor Venue. We rent our venue for graduations, birthdays, weddings, and more! We have public pricing and for those who are Heard-Craig Patron Members, we have discount rental pricing. We also book private events such as bridal teas, bridal showers, and baby showers inside the Main Museum.
We are located in the heart of downtown McKinney. Historical background: The Heard-Craig Art Center & Museum was originally a home for the Stephen Heard family but today, it is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Many friends, family, and community came here to do business and were welcomed warmly and with open arms, as are welcomed today.
Kathryn Heard’s legacy includes the formation of the Art Club of McKinney, includes being a president of the Owl Club, and she was the first woman appointed to the Board of Austin College, a leadership role of which she was most proud. The Heard-Craig Art Center & Museum was established in 1970 as a gift to the many organizations and clubs that needed a place to hold their educational meetings.
Today, we are stewards of her vision; our annual philanthropy (the gift of free meeting space) is generously assisted by the community who visit for tours and provide volunteer service to maintain the historic property. We extend an invitation to everyone to stop by and visit the museum and visit our ART O MAT, the only one in this region of Texas.
The Art-O-Mat is a vintage cigarette machine that has been repurposed to dispense collectible, original art from over 400 artists around the world. The machine is very popular among small children who like to pull the handles and open the art boxes. The Art O Mat is located in the Heard-Craig Carriage House which is a few steps from the ”Hunt Lot 1” Trolley stop in downtown McKinney.
