About Accessibility

Accessibility

This website is built to work with assistive technology, and the team behind it wants to know the moment it doesn't.

Using This Website

Visitors who use assistive technology (such as a Braille reader, a screen reader, or TTY) and find that the format of any material on this website interferes with accessing information can contact the Web Coordinator or the City of McKinney ADA Coordinator, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. To enable the most helpful response, please share the nature of the accessibility problem, the preferred format for receiving the material, the web address of the requested material, and contact information.

Users who need accessibility assistance can also call through the Federal Information Relay Service at 1-800-877-8339 for TTY / Voice communication.

Accessibility Design Guidelines

The website has been designed with the following guidelines in mind:

  • The standard font used throughout the website has been chosen to be easily legible.
  • Wherever possible, live text is used instead of graphics, reducing download time and increasing visitor control.
  • No information is exclusively conveyed using color—colors organize information, but never carry it alone.
  • All images and hyperlinks, where appropriate, carry an alternative text attribute describing their content.
  • The website specifically attempts to comply with Section 508 website accessibility standards, and strives to follow WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

PDF Documents

PDF reader software may be required to view and print PDF documents on this website. Adobe's free PDF Reader is recommended, and Adobe's Reader Accessibility resources support reading PDF documents with a screen reader.

ADA Compliance

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the City of McKinney will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in the City's services, programs, or activities.

Employment: the City does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices, and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA.

Effective communication: the City will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities — including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information accessible to people with speech, hearing, or vision impairments.

Modifications: the City will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all City programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed in City offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a City program, service, or activity, should contact the office of the ADA Coordinator as soon as possible — no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event. The City will not place a surcharge on individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids, services, or reasonable modifications. Complaints that a program, service, or activity is not accessible should be directed to the ADA Coordinator's office at 972-547-2694.
