Purpose

Visit McKinney is committed to promoting high-quality, memorable visitor experiences that showcase the character, hospitality, and distinctive appeal of McKinney, Texas.

The purpose of this policy is to establish eligibility requirements and selection criteria for short-term rental (STR) accommodations wanting to be considered for inclusion on the official VisitMcKinney.com website.

Rather than serving as a comprehensive directory of all short-term rentals operating within the city, Visit McKinney will maintain a curated collection of accommodations that offer a distinctive experience, demonstrate quality and professionalism, and complement McKinney's tourism brand.

Inclusion is intended to help visitors discover exceptional places to stay while supporting the city's tourism and hospitality economy.

Inclusion Philosophy

Visit McKinney will prioritize accommodations that offer something distinctive beyond a place to sleep.

Eligible accommodations may include unique or themed vacation homes, historic residences, architecturally significant properties, design-forward accommodations, and rentals offering exceptional amenities or experiences for visitors.

The goal is quality over quantity. Legal operation alone does not guarantee inclusion. Visit McKinney reserves the right to select an accommodation based on the overall visitor appeal, quality, uniqueness, and alignment with the destination's brand. Not all accommodations submitted for consideration will be included on the VisitMcKinney.com website.

Eligibility for Inclusion

City and Regulatory Compliance

• Your property must be located within the City of McKinney, Texas, city limits.
• Maintain all registrations, permits, licenses, and tax accounts required by applicable laws and regulations.
• Comply with applicable City of McKinney short-term rental requirements, zoning regulations, safety standards, and occupancy limits.
• Provide verification of compliance upon request.

Property Quality and Condition

• Maintain a clean, safe, well-maintained, and guest-ready property.
• Provide accurate photographs and descriptions of the accommodation.
• Ensure advertised amenities and features are available and functional.
• Maintain appropriate procedures for guest communication, property access, and issue resolution.

Professional Listing and Booking Information

• Provide a complete property description, including accommodations, amenities, occupancy, and notable features.
• Supply high-quality photographs that accurately represent the property.
• Provide a functioning booking website, direct reservation page, or professional property-management listing.
• Keep all submitted information accurate and up to date.
• If bookings take place outside of AirBnB and/or VRBO, your accommodation must be paying Hotel Occupancy Tax to the City of McKinney.

Distinctiveness and Selection Criteria

Accommodations that meet the minimum eligibility requirements above will be evaluated on their ability to contribute to a distinctive and compelling visitor experience. Priority may be given to accommodation that demonstrate one or more of the following characteristics:

• Historic or architectural significance: Historic homes, thoughtfully restored properties, or notable architectural features.
• Exceptional amenities: Features that meaningfully enhance a visitor's stay, such as standout outdoor spaces, recreational amenities, or specialized guest experiences.
• Connection to McKinney: A meaningful connection to local history, arts, culture, architecture, neighborhoods, or the character of the destination.
• Group and family appeal: Accommodations that serve a clear visitor need through thoughtfully designed spaces or specialized amenities.
• Exceptional presentation: Professional photography, compelling storytelling, and a polished, accurate online presence.
• Demonstrated hospitality: Positive guest feedback, reliable management, and a consistent commitment to service.

An accommodation does not need to meet every characteristic to be considered, however, it must demonstrate a clear reason why a visitor would choose it as a distinctive McKinney experience.

Accommodations that meet the above criteria must include a link to VisitMcKinney.com for visitors to find additional information about McKinney.

Standard residential rentals without a meaningful differentiator will not be selected, even when they satisfy all legal and operational requirements. Apartment rentals and individual apartment units are not eligible for inclusion in the Visit McKinney STR collection.

Visit McKinney reserves the right to decline, suspend, or remove any listing that does not meet the guidelines and standards outlined in this policy. Visit McKinney also reserves the right to decline or discontinue an accommodations inclusion in the collection at any time, at its sole discretion.

To be considered for inclusion on the Visit McKinney website, attractions must be located within the McKinney city limits and appeal to travelers and/or support the promotion of overnight stays and visitation to McKinney. Meeting these criteria does not guarantee inclusion. The Visit McKinney Marketing Team reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to approve, deny, remove, or decline to include any attraction or business on the website for any reason.

To be considered for inclusion on the Visit McKinney website, dining establishments must be located within the McKinney city limits and offer experiences, cuisine, or amenities that contribute to McKinney’s appeal as a destination for visitors. Meeting these criteria does not guarantee inclusion. The Visit McKinney Marketing Team reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to approve, deny, remove, or decline to include any dining establishment on the website for any reason.

Visit McKinney Digital Signage Policy

Visit McKinney welcomes requests from organizations, businesses, and event organizers to display promotional graphics on our digital signage, including:

• Digital Kiosks located at the McKinney Visitor Center and McKinney National Airport
• Visitor Center lobby TV display

Our digital signage is intended to promote tourism, enhance the visitor experience, and encourage visitation to McKinney. To ensure consistency with Visit McKinney's marketing mission, all submissions must meet the following guidelines.

Visit McKinney reserves the right to determine which digital signage location(s) are appropriate for each approved submission. Approval for one display does not guarantee placement on all Visit McKinney digital signage.

Eligibility

All graphics submitted for display must support Visit McKinney's tourism mission and follow the eligibility requirements listed below.

• Promote events, attractions, experiences, or activities that encourage visitation to McKinney
• Be of interest to visitors and residents seeking tourism-related experiences
• Be of the correct format and size as listed below

Submissions that do not support tourism or visitor engagement may not be approved. Submission of a graphic does not guarantee placement or a specific duration of display.

Content Restrictions

Visit McKinney does not accept graphics that:

• Promote religious organizations, services, or activities
• Promote political candidates, campaigns, ballot initiatives, or advocacy
• Contain offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content
• Violate copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property laws

Graphic Specifications

To ensure proper display, graphics must be submitted in the following sizes:

• Visitor Center TV: 1920 × 1080 pixels (landscape)
• Digital Kiosks: 1080 × 1920 pixels (portrait)

Graphics should be high resolution and designed specifically for the appropriate display orientation. Graphics that appear pixelated, distorted, or otherwise do not meet quality standards may be returned for revision before being considered for display.

• Organization name
• Event or promotion name
• Requested display dates (if applicable)
• Contact name and email address

Review Process

All submissions are reviewed by the Visit McKinney Marketing Team. Placement on Visit McKinney digital signage is not guaranteed. Approval is based on:

• Compliance with these guidelines
• Tourism relevance
• Content quality
• Available display space and scheduling

Because the McKinney National Airport kiosk serves a unique visitor audience, content displayed at that location may be more selectively curated. Priority may be given to citywide initiatives, signature events, major tourism attractions, and evergreen destination messaging that best serves airport visitors. As a result, not all approved graphics will be displayed on every digital signage location.

The Visit McKinney Marketing Team reserves the right to approve, deny, edit, schedule, or remove any submitted graphic at its sole discretion. Decisions regarding content placement, display duration, and signage location are final.

You will be notified after your submission has been reviewed and informed whether it has been approved for display.

No. All submissions are subject to review and applicable eligibility, content, and quality guidelines. Inclusion in a directory or calendar does not guarantee additional marketing or social media promotion.

Email the Visit McKinney Marketing Team with your edits or updates and they will assist you in updating your listing. Keep all business information including hours, contact information, website, and descriptions current on your Google Business Listing as this is where new information is pulled from.
