Historic Downtown McKinney runs a calendar of its own — seasonal festivals, markets, live music, art walks, and community gatherings in and around the square. The signature festivals anchor the year; classes, tours, and recurring nights fill the weeks between.
The weekends the square is built for
Every season brings a marquee weekend downtown. Spring opens with Arts in Bloom, the fine arts festival that fills the district with artists from across the country. Fall means McKinney Oktoberfest — authentic German food, craft beer, live music, and dancing across the square — and Thanksgiving weekend kicks off Home for the Holidays, the walkable celebration of twinkling lights, live music, and family activities that opens the season.
July 4th brings Red, White & BOOM!'s hometown parade through downtown, and Mardi Gras season turns the square over to the costumed dogs of Krewe of Barkus.
The downtown rhythm between festivals
The square never really goes quiet. The McKinney Farmers Market fills Chestnut Square every Saturday morning; Visit McKinney's free guided public art tours leave regularly from the Visitor Center; TUPPS Brewery keeps a live music lawn and events calendar of its own; and the studios downtown — McKinney Art House, Walls of Clay, and neighbors — run weekly classes and monthly paint nights.
The free Downtown Trolley loops the district Thursday through Saturday, tying the whole calendar together without moving the car.
The full calendar has the dates
Every downtown event — one-time and recurring — lands on the events calendar.
