Downtown McKinney Bird Murals

This public art installation is a cooperative effort between McKinney Main Street and local muralist and bird enthusiast Andrea Holmes. As you walk around Downtown McKinney, look up as you peruse shops to find the 32 life-sized birds making up this mini, but mega, mural project!

Take the Birds of Downtown Tour on the McKinney TX! app or web browser to be led on a trail of all the birds with information about each one.

Use the McKinney TX! App to Follow the Tour

  • Download the McKinney TX smartphone app to your mobile device of choice to access a tour with a map
  • When the app downloads, select the "Tours" button
  • Scroll down until you find "Birds of Downtown"
  • Have fun hunting for all the life-sized birds around Downtown McKinney

Meet Andrea Holmes

Local Muralist

 

Andrea Holmes is a Texas-based mural artist and painter whose studio is located in downtown McKinney. Her painting journey started in 2010 when she took a night class at the local community college, and she hasn't put the paintbrush down since.

Andrea holds a Bachelor's in Arts and Technology from the University of Texas at Dallas. She began selling her paintings in 2013 and continues creating, selling, and teaching classes to this day. Known as the "bird lady" for her vast series of bird paintings and murals, Andrea is the host of Birdtober — a daily creative challenge each October that attracts artists from across the globe. She is currently working to paint 100 bird murals all over the world.

"I paint bright, colorful, and bold paintings because they make me happy. That's what I want to give to you. A little ray of sunshine. Something that makes you smile."
