Music & Dance
Break out the Bavarian spirit and enjoy authentic German music and dance performances throughout the weekend. From energetic polka bands to Alpine dance troupes and strolling accordion musicians, the sounds of Oktoberfest fill the festival grounds.
Performances take place across multiple stages and locations throughout the festival.
Bavarian Experience Stage
The Bavarian Experience Stage is a hub for Oktoberfest tradition, creativity, and good-natured competition. This stage features a mix of crowd-favorite contests, cultural moments, and live performances.
Highlights include the Brat Eating Contest, Beard & Mustache Competition, appearances by local artists and musicians, and popular Meet the Brewmaster sessions featuring McKinney’s own TUPPS Brewery.
Note: The Stein-Holding Competition takes place at the Alpine Stage.
Contests & Competitions
Put your strength and endurance to the test with traditional Oktoberfest competitions that are as entertaining to watch as they are to compete in.
Hofbräu Stein-Holding Competition
Known as Masskrugstemmen, this classic competition challenges participants to hold a full one-liter stein straight out in front of them for as long as possible. This is a test of strength and endurance — not a drinking contest.
The competition features a special Police vs. Fire Department showdown followed by an open public contest.
Gemüetlichkeit (Goodwill) Games
Hosted by the Lions Club, the Gemüetlichkeit (Goodwill) Games bring high-energy fun and laughter to East Louisiana Street throughout the weekend.
Fan-favorite games include Bier Stein Races (non-alcoholic), Weenie Dog and Wannabe Weenie Dog Races, and the Marionette Drinking Game. These games are designed to be entertaining, family-friendly, and crowd-pleasing.
Parade & Keg Tapping
A beloved Oktoberfest tradition, the opening parade officially kicks off the weekend’s festivities.
Led by a high-energy drum line and filled with lederhosen, flags, and smiling faces, the parade winds through the festival grounds and concludes at the keg-tapping ceremony.
Friday at 6 p.m.
Family & Kids Activities
Oktoberfest is a welcoming, family-friendly celebration with plenty of activities for younger guests.
Family attractions include a carnival midway with rides and games, an interactive petting zoo presented by Westland Ranch, the Kinder Korner with crafts and activities, a rock climbing wall, and face painting.
Select attractions require coupons, which can be purchased throughout the festival grounds.
