Downtown Trolley FAQs
On September 1, 1906, McKinney became part of the Interurban Railway System — an electric rail line connecting Dallas to Denison and running directly through downtown. At its peak, the system operated 22 passenger cars daily and played a key role in the region's growth and commerce.
After more than 40 years of service, the Interurban made its final run on December 31, 1948.
Today's Downtown Trolley honors that legacy — a free, accessible, welcoming public ride that carries a piece of McKinney's past into its future.

The Downtown Trolley operates Thursday–Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Hours may vary for special events, holidays, or weather.
Nothing! The Downtown Trolley is free to ride for all passengers.
You can board at any designated trolley stop along the route — including stops on Kentucky, Virginia, Louisiana, and Tennessee streets, plus stops at Mitchell Park and Hall Library — or simply flag down the driver when you see the trolley pass by.
Yes. The Downtown Trolley is ADA accessible and can accommodate guests with mobility needs.
Well-behaved pets are welcome, and strollers are accommodated as space allows. Bicycles are not permitted onboard.
Yes. The trolley is available for private rentals within McKinney city limits, subject to availability and scheduling. Rentals include a required professional driver, seat up to 14 passengers, and run Monday–Wednesday, 8 a.m.–11 p.m. Base rate is $300 for 2 hours, plus $125/hour after that and a $75 maintenance fee. Full payment is due at booking; cancellations 10+ days out receive a full refund.
