The Cipher Lounge, a new immersive entertainment destination in Downtown McKinney, will begin its soft opening on Wednesday, August 12, bringing together craft cocktails, small plates, and theatrical escape-room experiences under one roof.
Located at 101 S. Chestnut St., The Cipher Lounge is designed to be more than a traditional bar or escape room. The concept combines the atmosphere of a sophisticated cocktail lounge with immersive storytelling, inviting guests to enjoy a drink before, after, or as part of an evening built around mystery and adventure.
The lounge features two immersive escape experiences. One takes guests inside the mystery and paranormal history surrounding the Phoenix Hotel, where players follow clues and uncover secrets connected to the historic setting. The second transports guests far from McKinney to a classified deep-space station that has gone dark, challenging players to take command and escape before time—and the air—runs out.
For visitors exploring McKinney, the concept offers a distinctive way to experience the city beyond its daytime attractions.
The lounge’s cocktail program is built around crafted signature drinks, including the Rose of Margo, The Bookclub Special, The Phoenix Hotel Bloody Mary, Blackberry Bramble, and more. The menu is designed to complement the immersive experience while giving guests a reason to settle in and enjoy the lounge even when they aren’t solving a mystery.
Adding another layer of discovery is Who’s Who, an interactive blind bourbon tasting designed to test guests’ palates and detective skills. Every bourbon has a story, challenging the guests to decipher which is which.
During the experience, participants sample a blind flight of bourbons and read a mysterious story associated with each pour. They then attempt to match every bourbon to its correct tale, compare their answers, and settle the debate. Guests who successfully crack the lineup can win a voucher for a complimentary cocktail.
The experience is designed to turn a traditional bourbon tasting into a game of deduction, giving groups another reason to gather, compete, and have fun together.
