(McKinney – May 4, 2026) Visit McKinney is proud to join destinations across the country in celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), May 3-9, 2026, an annual observance recognizing the vital contributions of the travel industry to local and national economics. This year’s theme, “Postmarked: Essential,” underscores what McKinney already knows: tourism is not a luxury—it is a cornerstone of community prosperity.
The numbers tell a powerful story. In 2025, visitor spending in McKinney reached $325 million, fueling local businesses, restaurants, attractions, and cultural experiences throughout the city. That activity generated $34.9 million in local tax revenue, dollars that flow directly back into city services and community development while supporting more than 2,200 jobs in the local hospitality sector.
“It all starts with a visit,” says Aaron Werner, Visit McKinney Executive Director. “And in McKinney, that visit turns into memories people carry with them long after they leave. Each visit supports local businesses and contributes to our local economy.”
Nationally, the travel industry generates $3 trillion in economic output and supports 15 million jobs, representing 2.4% of American’s GDP. This year’s celebration of NTTW takes on added significance as the country prepares to host historic global events, including the FIFA World Cup and America’s 250th birthday celebration, which are expected to bring tens of millions of visitors to communities across the nation.
Since its establishment in 1983, NTTW has served as an annual platform to champion travel’s role in building connections and driving economic vitality. Visit McKinney invites residents and local leaders to join in recognizing the industry professional and hospitality workers who keep McKinney welcoming, vibrant, and competitive on a national and international stage.
