Welcome to the Downtown McKinney Scavenger Hunt!

To ensure a fun and safe experience for everyone, please read and follow the rules and guidelines below.

$2,500 Grand Prize Scavenger Hunt:

• Pick up a map at Visit McKinney, the McKinney Performing Arts Center, or download a digitally-fillable PDF HERE.

• Tune in on Saturday morning for hints to clue locations around Downtown McKinney.
• Solve puzzles and riddles to discover the hidden location of the Grand Prize.

Search and Discover Hidden Coins:

• There are 140 gold and silver coins cleverly hidden throughout the Cultural District.
• No map or hints are necessary to participate.
• $11,000 in worth in prizes include gift certificates and Downtown Dollars.
• Prizes can be claimed at participating Downtown Businesses identified on the coin.

Downtown McKinney Scavenger Hunt: Rules & Regulations

Welcome to the Downtown McKinney Scavenger Hunt! To ensure a fun and safe experience for everyone, participants must follow the rules and guidelines set forth below:

1. The Social Media Advantage:

All participants MUST follow @downtownmckinney and @visitmckinneytx on social media. Exclusive hints and important information will be shared only through these channels, so stay connected to gain an advantage in the hunt! Who knows, we might reveal the locations of some treasures throughout the week!

2. Maps:

Participants must pick up an official scavenger hunt map from either the Visit McKinney Visitors Center, located at 200 W. Virginia St., McKinney, TX, 75069, or the McKinney Performing Arts Center, located at 111 N. Tennessee St., McKinney, TX 75069, during regular business hours. This map is essential for navigating the hunt and locating the hidden treasures.

3. Prizes:

A. Prize Coins: Approximately 140 Prize Coins have been hidden throughout Downtown McKinney and are labeled with the prize for which they can be claimed and the business where they may be redeemed. Coins can only be redeemed once and must be redeemed at the respective business during said business's regular hours by close of business on September 16, 2024. Prize Coins have no cash value. Please be courteous, limit 3 Prize Coins per household. If you find a Prize Coin and do not plan on redeeming it, place it back where you found it and let someone else make the discovery!

B. Ultimate Grand Prize: One Ultimate Grand Prize, consisting of a cash prize in the amount of Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500), will be awarded to the first participant who solves all six (6) clues and provides the correct 6 answers. Each challenge will present a unique puzzle that must be solved before gaining access to the final prize.

4. Respect for Property:

All participants must show respect to the sites and properties located in Downtown McKinney. Participants are prohibited from damaging or defacing any public or private property. Trespassing on private property shall also be prohibited. The Scavenger Hunt is designed to be enjoyable without causing harm to any of the cherished sites in Downtown McKinney.

5. Public Accessibility:

All prizes and clues are in public spaces that are easily accessible to everyone. No prizes or clues will be hidden in dangerous or hard-to-reach places. Participants are prohibited from climbing, digging, or otherwise disturbing any structures or landscaping located in Downtown McKinney.

6. Business and Property Boundaries:

All hidden items will be within public rights-of-ways, public parks, City of McKinney property, or other publicly accessible and visible areas on private property. No prizes or clues will be hidden inside private businesses or on private property not visible from the public right-of-way. The TUPPS Brewery property is included in the playable area, but the buildings are not.

7. Prize Coin Redemption:

Each Prize Coin may only be redeemed once. The Prize Coin shall be surrendered to Merchant at time of redemption of prize at which point the Prize Coin is no longer valid and cannot be used again. Merchants have been instructed to mark claimed Prize Coins once redeemed. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Sponsor shall have no liability should Participant be unable to redeem the Prize Coin for any reason, including should Merchant refuse to honor any Prize Coin at redemption. Participant understands and agrees that each individual Merchant is ultimately responsible for the prizes awarded as a part of this Scavenger Hunt, and Sponsor does not warrant or provide any assurances as to the quality or merchantability of such prizes.  If you have any questions, contact McKinney Main Street at contact-mainstreet@mckinneytexas.org.

8. Waiver of Liability

Participant acknowledges their full consent, agreement and willing participation in the Scavenger Hunt. In consideration thereof, Participant forever waives, releases, discharges and agrees to hold harmless Sponsors, together with their respective affiliates, promotional partners, sponsors, event organizers, individual team members, owners and lessees of premises used to conduct the event, and all other officers, directors, employees, agents, successors, assigns, and legal representatives of each of them, all for the purposes herein referred to as RELEASEES, from all liability, any and all claims, demands, actions, causes and expenses of any nature, including but not limited to property damage, personal injury, liability, attorney’s fees, expenses for litigation and/or settlement arising out of my participation in the Scavenger Hunt. I understand that the Scavenger Hunt is conducted on or near open public roadways and understand that I must be alert and obey all traffic laws as it pertains to pedestrians. By participating in the Scavenger Hunt, I forever agree and consent not to sue the RELEASEES in any cause of action arising out of my/our participation of the Adventures in Scavenger Hunting and Party. I agree that this consent and release shall apply to all of my successors in interest.

9. No Purchase Necessary:

Participation in the scavenger hunt is free and open to the public. There is no purchase necessary to join the hunt or to win prizes.

By participating in the Downtown McKinney Scavenger Hunt, you agree to abide by these rules and ensure a positive experience for all involved. Failure to do so may result in the immediate disqualification of any such participant, at the sole discretion of the Sponsors. Employees, independent contractors, interns, officers, directors, and agents of the Sponsors and/or the City of McKinney, and/or those living in the same household of each are not eligible to participate. The Sponsors of “Downtown McKinney Scavenger Hunt” (the “Scavenger Hunt”) are McKinney Downtown Business Re-Development Corporation (d/b/a McKinney Main Street) and McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc. (d/b/a Visit McKinney).
